In Memorium: Andy Newbold

Loughborough Foxes are saddened to hear of the passing of Andy Newbold.

Loughborough Foxes recently received heart breaking news that Andy Newbold passed away on the 25th November, after a 7-month battle with cancer, at the age of 47.

Andy was an integral member of the club and was the club’s Chairman, U18 manager, key committee member and friend, dedicating an incredible amount of time and energy not only coaching and organising the club, but inspiring and encouraging countless women and girls to succeed in their sport and believe in themselves.

Andy has played a huge role in our club moving forwards over the past 10 years and always supported us throughout many significant times. He had an immense input into and impact on the club, but not only that, he was a pleasure to be around.

“Andy was hardworking and always made me laugh, it was an honour to have known him. He shared such a passion for football, and I admired not only his commitment to the game, but his generosity with his time and dedication to developing young players. An exceptional volunteer.”

Andy was also involved in football as a former premier league referee and became a mentor and assessor to developing referees. He never failed to step in during preseason friendlies at the last minute and was the first to take part in charity matches, to keep the girls in check!

Andy’s funeral will take place on the 11th December at St Mary’s Church, Ashby Rd. Please see the route if you wish to pay your respects to Andy as he passes that he will be leaving home (Poppy Close) at approximately 12:45pm, the route to be taken to the church will be Fairmeadows way past Woodbrook Vale school, Beacon road past Sacred Heart school, Epinal way past the petrol station, left at the roundabout before McDonalds onto Park Rd, past the convent (Amherst school), on to Browns lane, past the Leisure Centre on to Frederick street. All are welcome and encouraged to join, as Andy made a huge impact on so many without even realising his influence.

His wife, Sharron has created a Go Fund Me page to raise money for Cancer Research and CAFOD, in memory of Andy.  If you wish to make a contribution, please visit the following Go Fund Me Link.

Many members of the Foxes family have had their hearts touched by Andy and he did so much for other people, helping anyone in need.

“Andy’s love for the Foxes was immeasurable and to quote Sharron, “he thought the world of his team.”

“He always portrayed every attribute of a Fox and was always such a kind, funny man. We have so many special memories with Andy and will hold on to those forever.”

“I have only known Andy properly over the last few years, but I could instantly see the impact he has had and the amazing contributions he has made to the club. So passionate about the club and developing the girls, we would often chat about it when I saw him walking the dog around here.”

“Andy was brilliant – I was always touched by the support he gave me when he came to watch first team games – a true fox; made the club what it is today”

Everyone at Loughborough Foxes wishes to send their condolences to Andy’s family and friends at this difficult time. Andy will always be in the Foxes hearts and has been the heart and soul to our progress and community.
