Foxes vs Stoke City Women

Sunday 18th April sees both the First and the Development teams up against Stoke City Women.

First Team

The First Team travel to Stoke-on-Trent for their match against Stoke City Women. The last time the two sides met, they played out an entertaining 2-2 draw.

Foxes took the lead through former striker Becky Knight, in the 18th minute. Stoke turned it around, though, to lead 2-1 before Laura Steele levelled it up, seven minutes from time. That’s how it stayed, in a game that Foxes almost certainly deserved to win.

The Opposition

Stoke City were around mid-table before the 20-21 season was curtailed. They had won three, drawn two and lost three out of the eight games they had played.

Striker, Lizzie Steele, had been in terrific form during the season, with 10 goals in eight appearances. Forward Amy Hughes had also chipped in with three goals in eight starts.

Head coach, Alena Moulton, will be in charge of the opposition. She has been in the role since the beginning of the 20-21 season.

Development Team

The Development Team will also be back in action on Sunday after a long four months out of action.

Even though it will have been 126 days since the development team last kicked off, Foxes play against Stoke City Reserves for the second consecutive game.

Last time out, the game ended in a 4-3 defeat for Foxes.

Stoke City took the lead through Seanna McCann-Lloyd before Simran Singh equalised for Foxes inside 30 mins. Three goals were then shared between the two sides in seven second-half minutes. Jodie Foxhall put Stoke ahead but Rosetta Taylor equalised for Foxes before McCann-Lloyd scored her second of the game. Stoke then went 4-2 up through Hannah Johnson, 15 mins from time. Indiana Totty managed to score a last-minute consolation goal but the game ended 4-3 to Stoke.

The Opposition

Stoke City Reserves were in good form, before the FAWNL Reserve Midland Division curtailment. They had won six out of seven games and had only lost once.

Nuala Mizkiel and Jodie Foxhall had top scored for Stoke with four goals each in six and seven games respectively. Manuela Delle had also been in great form, with 3 goals in 3 starts.

The reserve team are managed by Tom Pond, who has been in charge since the beginning of the 2020-21 season.
