154 days – that’s how long it will have been since Foxes last played a competitive football match, by the time they take to the field on Sunday. That’s a massive 5 months and 3 days
But finally the time is almost upon us once more! At 2pm on Sunday, Foxes will take on Derby County Women in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup Second Round, at the Loughborough University Stadium.
Foxes will be up against Derby County Women, who also play in the FAWNL Premier North Division. They were fourth in the league, until the campaign was curtailed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The visitors had scored, on average, 3 goals per game this season, with the goals being shared around the team. Midfielder, Callan Barber, had top-scored with an impressive 5 goals in 9 games, with Jodie Michalska and Hannah Keryakoplis both scoring 4 goals in 7 games.
Derby have been managed by Sam Griffiths, former Ewe Rams midfielder, since the 2018-19 season.
In the most recent meeting between the two sides – the first game of the 20-21 season – Foxes and Derby played out an entertaining 3-3 draw. Megan Tinsley put Derby ahead early on, before a 10-minute brace from player of the match, Lauren Nicholls, dragged Foxes in front.
Hannah Keryakoplis thought she had brought Derby level at the break but Chloe Young put Foxes 3-2 up on the stroke of half-time.
Callan Barber scored within 10 minutes of the second-half to level at 3-3. That’s how it stayed to earn both sides a well-earned point.
In the past three meetings between the two sides, Foxes have lost two and drawn one.
