On Sunday, both the First and Development Teams go up against their Lincoln City Women counterparts, in Week 2 of The Pygott & Crone Cup.
Whilst both Foxes teams ended up on the losing side last time out, against Stoke City Women, there were plenty of positives to take forward from the games.
Aside from a 15 minute period in the second half, the First Team showed plenty of desire and determination and more than matched Stoke for the large majority of the game.
As for the Development Team, they played their first game in 4 months and shook off a lot of cobwebs, ready for this weekend’s fixture against Lincoln City.
Interview with Lauren Taft
We spoke to Foxes First Team fullback, Lauren Taft, to get her thoughts on the upcoming fixtures.
Q. Sunday sees our third successive weekend with a game. How good has it felt to be back playing regular football?
It feels great to be back! Everybody has missed football. Through lockdown, it has been important as a team to keep high standards with fitness and feel as prepared as possible to return. Now we have been able to enjoy game time, it’s starting to show that our hard work is beginning to pay off.
Q. How have the team been training this week? What’s the atmosphere been like in the group, with regular fixtures again?
The team have done so well this week! We have continued to build from the FA cup and our first friendly. It’s been a great atmosphere as well. The girls are so positive and we are always looking to improve.
Q. Foxes go up against Lincoln City Women in the second week of The Pygott & Crone Cup on Sunday. How confident are you feeling, going into the game?
I am feeling fairly confident going into the game against Lincoln. I know they will put up a good fight, after seeing their 6-1 win against Norwich City last time out. We are determined, though, as a team to play our game and get a result.
Q. Last time out, against Stoke City Women, Foxes lost 4-0. Whilst it wasn’t the result we would have wanted, there were still plenty of positives to take. What can you take forward into the next game?
I completely agree, there were lots of positives to take from the game against Stoke. We will look to do the right things against Lincoln, build our attack effectively and get more goal scoring opportunities!
Q. You were handed the captain’s armband for that game. How did that feel for you on a personal level?
Being handed the captains armband was such a privilege for me. I always try to be a positive and supportive player and, with it being my first season at Foxes, it meant so much to lead the team.
Q. How do you see the game going on Sunday?
I feel positive going into the game. It felt good in training and we are all looking forward to playing and pushing on, as a team!
